Violin Lessons

Young or Young at Heart

Are you an adult who used to play the violin and get back into it? Or do you have children who have musical ears? I am now available for lessons at my home in Meadowbank, or I can teach at a local place in Auckland city and the central Bays area.

The violin is perhaps the most difficult of the instruments to learn. It's very unforgiving and the slightest half millimeter can mean you're either in-tune or out of tune. Playing the violin is almost like learning two instruments, the bow controls how you make the violin sing and getting either a fluid motion or bouncy staccato can take years of mastery. I would say a commitment of around 4 or 5 years will be what it takes to really start sounding great.

That said, it is wicked fun, a show stopping instrument and can unlock heartstrings. You can play so many different styles and is extremely portable.

Why would I want to learn the violin with you Olly?

I love seeing students advance and learn the music that fills their hearts. I can:

  • Help you with reducing performance anxiety
  • Reduce shaky bow
  • Bring fluid motion to your playing style
  • Reduce tension and tightness in shoulders, arms and fingers
  • I teach with empathy listening to my student's needs
  • I am a relaxed teacher looking to make lessons enjoyable
  • Variety of teaching methods used
  • Bring alternative violin playing methods and stylistic techniques to add to your instruments 'voice'
  • Build on existing foundations
  • Develop musically and understand what makes a performance go from great to outstanding
  • I also teach Electric Violin - the new age in violin playing
  • Help you or your child find their passion
